18.03.06 League
FC Village 1- 2 Bronze Social

For the fifth time this season the Village lost a league match they so easily could have won. In the end it was a bad mistake by the referee that cost them at least a point but by then they had allowed their opponents to get back on level terms. For their first home game in nearly two months the Village welcomed back Jay from suspension but otherwise it was the side that had done well in recent games. Both sides struggled at first with the hard pitch and the bounce of the ball. In a very bitty opening period neither side really created any real chances as the home side dominated the play with the visitors relying on the long ball but they kept getting caught offside. Sweeney made a couple of good runs for the Village and Colin had a long range effort that was easily saved and so the game was still goalless at the interval. With Dava off ill at half time the second half saw Bronze start to get forward a bit more and Jay had to make two really good saves to keep it at 0-0. The Village’s best chance fell to Sweeney when the ball fell to him after Colin and the keeper clashed but his shot was way off target. Then Gary on for the injured Colin broke free and his shot went just wide of the post. With the game heading for a 0-0 draw the Village suddenly got the break the game needed when Kevin’s cross from the right was dummied by Liam which confused the Bronze keeper and a defender and left Sweeney the simple task of knocking the ball home for the opener. Just ten minutes left for the Village to hang on but they then pressed the self destruct button straight from the restart. A long punt up field should have been launched out of play but the defence tried to play it out and got caught which ended with a Bronze playing chipping in an equaliser. Now the game appeared to be back to a point a piece as the minutes ticked by but then the referee made his bad decision which would give the points to Bronze. A visiting forward broke free from just inside the Village half when he looked offside. He ran towards goal and Jay ran out to meet him. As this happens, Sweeney2 and another attacker ran towards the goal as well and as the forward with the ball aimed to shoot, Sweeney2 and the other attacker go past Jay. So it’s now from the goal line out, Sweeney2, an attacker, Jay and the forward with the ball. He shoots, Jay parries it to his right and the other forward turns back to get the ball and fire past the defender on the line. The Village players appeal for offside as according to the rules it is offside but the referee amazingly ignores them and signals a goal. Game over as it’s too late to try and get an equaliser and another game lost which they should have really won and yet again another important decision from a referee costs them dearly.
