19.11.05 League
FC Village 1 - 6 New Dock

For the third week running the Village were scrambling to get a team together and this week they failed as they played their first league game for weeks with only ten men. They were already missing the reunion boys; Ritchie, Chris, Currie and Cottier when Leigh announced that he had chipped a bone in his foot the Sunday before and would be out for a while. Then on the Saturday morning they found that Moggett couldn’t make it and Darren had called it a day, but with Harper playing his first game of the season and Steve Murray signing on before the match they had the bare eleven.  Finally on the way to the ground Nic phoned in saying he couldn’t find his boots and that was it. A quick shuffle around of positions meant that the Village kicked off knowing it was going to be tough for the 90 minutes but surprisingly they made the better start. With Booey the stand-in captain for the jaded Jay showing the way in a M.O.M performance the Village dominated the early proceedings and to be fair they were the better team in the first half. Apart from several half chances they created two really great openings as they cut the static New Dock defence to pieces down the left hand side through Brian and Steve. The first and best chance fell to Brian as he was put clean through but the keeper just managed to get to his effort and knock it wide. Then Sweeney was sent clear but his lob over the keeper just went the wrong side of the bar to keep the game goalless. The visitors just couldn’t get their act together but then a wayward shot hit Harper and from the resulting corner a player headed team to put them in front. It could and should have been the Village leading at the interval but as it was they had played really well despite being a man down but still trailed. They knew now that the effort put in for the first forty five minutes would be required again as they would ultimately tire as the game went on. However within 10 minutes of the restart it was all over as New Dock scored twice to seal the two points. They now had the confidence to play and as the Village defence who had performed so well in that first half did tire they took control and scored another two goals. For the home side, Gary nearly reduced the arrears when his goal bound effort was brilliantly saved by the keeper and then right at the end Dava crossed for Brian to smartly fire home a consolation goal. Still New Dock had time to go up the other end and score a sixth to give a final score line of 1-6 but this rather flattered the visitors for it was all Village in that first half. However this first league match for a while saw a return of zero points and a result which leaves the side in the bottom four of the division.
