01.10.05 Regent Cup 1st Round
FC Village 3 - 1 Upton Park

First game in October and the start of a few different cup matches was a first round Regent Cup match against Div 2 opponents Upton Park down at Levers. Dava and Ritchie returned but when a couple of the players failed to turn up it left the side fielding a very young starting eleven. However this didn't deter them and they took the game to their more experienced opponents by playing football and using the wide expanses of pitch 1. Three goals in a pulsating half from the Village settled this tie and send them comfortably through to the second round. Sweeney opened the scoring when Booey raced clear and this week he laid the ball back for his live wire attacking partner to sweep home. Then a great cross from the left wing by Stewy reached Currie at the far post and he calmly fired in to make it 2-0. Then just before the interval M.O.M Booey was on hand to bundle home a goal bound effort from Currie from close range. With the game virtually won the Village eased up in the second half but they could easily have added to their total but it wasn't to be. Then when the side tired a bit towards the end and replaced the tiring Currie with Moggett they allowed Upton to get in to the match. However for all their possession they only came close once when they hit the bar and scored a late consolation goal when the home team should have cleared. No more goals and the Div 3 side deservedly through to the next stages with this win giving them the confidence to face two other Div 2 sides in the coming weeks.
