Wirral Wanderers 0 - 4 FC Village
I do believe it now. Two wins on the trot and normal results resumed against old foes Wirral Wanderers. However Saturday morning was not without its usual troubles of phoning around for players as Ritchie has moved on to pastures new and both Chris and Currie were not available. Fortunately Gary, Nic and Dava all returned and with new signing Ritchie they turned up with ten because Muzza had gone fishing. A quick phone call saw Dave Sadler grab his boots to sign on before going on so they kicked off with no sub but at least a full side. Raring to go from the beginning, keen to make up for the disappointing cup tie against Wirral and buoyed up by their win from the previous week the Village took early control of the match. Shutting down and not giving their opponents anytime the Village midfield of Booey and Ritchie with Steve just sitting in front of the back four dominated the game. Eventually the break through came when Sweeney made a great run down the left, beat two defenders and was brought down in the box. Penalty to the visitors which Sweeney struck straight down the middle to put them in the lead. The home side then put in a good free kick but this was well saved before a great piece of opportunism from Sweeney saw the Village take command just before the interval. The Wanderers keeper got the ball and tried to throw it one of his midfielders but ended up in throwing straight to Sweeney who volleyed it home from some twenty five yards out. Second half and it was a similar story, Wirral trying to get back in the match, Village defending in numbers and counter attacking in style. With Sweeney and Colin supporting lone forward Gary really well it came as no surprise when the Village made it 3-0 not long in to the second half. Colin was put through and he swept the ball past the keeper for his fourth of the season. Credit to the Wanderers they kept going but with the Village defence in fine form and determined to register their first clean sheet of the season they had a lot of pressure but no real clear cut chances. Then from a free kick by Dava the ball reached Colin who turned and drilled it in to the far corner for his second of the game to pout the seal on a fine win. A great result, the second on the trot which pushed the Village up three places in the table with all 11 players doing really well especially M.O.M Booey who along side Ritchie put in a match winning display.
