FC Village 2-2 Big House
23/09/06 - League

FC Village remain unbeaten in the league but were somewhat disappointed that they only came away with a draw in a game they dominated for long periods. For this game against Big House down at Levers the Village saw the return of Lee W, Nic, Jay and Cottier and the introduction of Danny as one of two subs which made a nice change. With the wind behind them the home side came out of the traps at a frantic pace and took the match to their opponents playing some cracking football in the process. Using both wings the chances started to arrive as Colin, Sweeney and Edgy all came close and then Colin hit the post. Finally they got the reward their play deserved as Lee W put in a great ball for Booey to break through and fire past the keeper. Minutes later they doubled their lead when the ball was cleared out to Booey and he unleashed a great shot that whistled past the keeper for 2-0. Just before half time two moments (one at each end) occurred that would end up having a big say on the outcome of the match. Firstly Sweeney broke free down the left, cut in and crossed the ball towards Maggott at the far post for a simple tap in but the keeper just managed to get his hands to it. Then in injury time Big House broke away and after the Village failed to clear with several attempts one of their forwards fired home. So instead of going in 3-0 up it was only 2-1 to the Village lads and Big House now had the wind behind them. It therefore came as no surprise when Big House started using the wind and long ball to pressure the Village back four in search of more goals. Those second 45 minutes was really a backs to wall job for the Village team but they held firm and the visitors never really threatened their goal. The Village had a couple of breakaways the best being when M.O.M. Nic broke out of defence and with three against two he passed to Cottier who saw his shot well saved with Sweeney just failing to steer home the rebound. Then Big House got the break they needed as the ref allowed play on when offside seemed to be the more likely decision and with the back four appealing in vain a visiting forward ran on to score his second of the match and the equaliser. Still with plenty of time on theirs hands neither of the teams seemed interested in going for a winner and so when time eventually ran out the points were shared. So three games down and still undefeated but the two draws were both games the side could easily have won.
