FC Village 8-1 Bebington Rovers
11/11/06 - League

The Village crushed bottom of the table side in atrocious conditions down at Levers with their best win of the season. For this first game there in over a month the Village heard that they had lost both Ritchie and Edgy with bad injuries until the New Year and with Lee H working they were down to the bare bones. But they got 13 together and after the previous weekends chat they all turned up early to get together as a team. On a decent playing surface they played with the really strong wind at their backs for the first half and even though the opposition are bottom of the table they knew that a good start was needed. This they got in the opening minutes after Sweeney had come close and Jimmy had hit the post. From one of numerous first half corners the ball was played back in to the area and there was Gavin who jumped with the keeper and managed to head it out of his hands in to the net. The Rovers defence protested but the ref gave the goal and the Village used this platform to build a healthy half time lead. Maggott almost doubled the lead but he volleyed over and this was going to be typical of his afternoon’s work as he had no luck in front of goal at all. However he soon became the provider as he slipped in Sweeney who scored with his left peg for the first time in a while to make it 2-0. It was soon 3-0 as M.O.M Sweeney swept down the right for the umpteenth time and this time pulled it back for Booey to slam home from close range. Booey then got himself a penalty for a shove in the back and he stepped up only to see his effort hit the post. From the rebound Dava came from nowhere and saw his shot hit the same post but it came back to him and he slotted in his first of the season. Four to the good at the interval the Village knew that there more goals for the taking despite playing in to the strong wind. Once more they forced the play but when the Rovers hit one of their long balls out of defence they got a throw near the Village area and when the ball arrived in the area a visiting forward hooked it over his head in to the far corner for a consolation goal. The home side decided to get things going again but it took them a while and once more it was Sweeney who was the provider as he out paced the Rovers defence to cross for Muzza to coolly fire under the keeper at the far post. With the game won the Village now used the remaining time to give the two subs a run out as Colin and then Mike replaced Muzza and Jimmy. Colin now became provider as he put Sweeney through with a neat flick and he ran on to slot home with ease for his second of the game. Booey was next to get his double as he pipped Sweeney to knock in on the goal after Colin had set them up for a second time. The last goal went to Booey for his hat trick and he won his half time £5 bet with assistant manager John when he got the ball on the edge of the area and fired in a great angled shot. So a final score line of 8-1 with the Village dominating from start to finish and despite the bad conditions the final tally could have been much higher.
