Report: FC Village 4 Bebington Rovers 0
The Village made hard work of beating the bottom side but the three goals in the last quarter of the game gave the final scoreline a more respectable look about it. After yet another lengthy lay off the Village had the first of their remaining matches as they hosted bottom side Bebington Rovers down at Levers. With the home side missing Pete and Timmy (at the races) and Jason and Martin (other commitments) they were hoping to see the return Dava after his tour in the Falklands but he was ill and so missed out which left open a comeback for Crozzer after his long absence. He slotted straight in to the midfield and Mike joined Dave on the bench.
Even though the visitors started off with ten men it felt at times they had more than eleven as the Village sought that early advantage. Eventually it arrived as JJ was put through down the right and he cut in to drive the ball in to the roof off the net for the opener. The expected floodgates never opened and this was as much to do with playing in to the wind as not getting their game together. The visitors were now back to full strength and some resolute defending kept the Village at bay and then some slack work in the home defence allowed them a golden opportunity to draw level. A slip in the Village back four let in one of the Rovers forwards and he faced Jay in a one on one but it was Jay who came out on top with a great save. With a couple of needless bookings being the only other things to mention the half ended with the Village still leading by that solitary goal.
It was a similar story in the second half as the Village enjoyed most of the play but never really reached the heights they know they can. With Rovers never threatening the home goal it was felt that that one goal would be enough but then a bizarre sending off changed everything. This came after a Rovers defender had handled the ball on the ball but the ref blew for an earlier incident which could have resulted in one for them. That red card was very strange to say the least but it certainly galvanised the Village and they romped home with three goals in the last quarter. With JJ moving out to the left wing, Machin over to the right and Ashley going up top the side started to create the openings there hadn’t been before. From a superb cross field pass by Crozzer, JJ was set free and his fierce shot was well saved by the keeper. From the resulting corner JJ floated over the ball which was met firmly by Booey’s head and it flew in to the net. Minutes later it was 3-0 as Ashley was set free on the half way line and he ran on to calmly lob the Rovers keeper for his third goal of the season. More goals could have come as the Village gave run outs to subs Dave and Mike but the Village settled for one more as M.O.M Booey met Ashley’s corner with another great leap and thundered home his second of the match. So its two games to go with the Village certain of finishing in the top three at worse but they hope they can keep that runners up spot.
