Report: Bronze Social 0 FCVillage 4

After yet another couple of free weeks the Village played their one and only game for March down at Levers in the return fixture against Bronze Social and they came away with a well earned win that saw two landmarks in Maggot being the first Village player to score 20 goals in a season and then his replacment Jason scored his first ever goal for the club. The only change from their recent games was the welcome return of Timmy to the squad after a lengthy lay off due to work commitments and they nearly got Kenny back in to the fold but he hopefully will be there for the remaining three games. So Timmy joined Jason and Dave on the bench as the game eventually kicked off a bit late due to a mix up in kick off times.

The wind was strong but the rain was holding off as both sides used the opening exchanges to see what they were up against. The home side got an early chance but Jay was equal to it and gradually the Village started to create some chances through some good wing play down the right. Even though none of these were converted it felt it was just a matter of time before the visitors would score and midway through the half they opened the scoring when the ball fell to JJ some 25 yards out and he drilled it in off the foot of the post. Other chances came and went but the only other notable thing to happen in the remainder of the half was a scuffle involving several players that ended with a booking for JJ.

Half time came and the heavens opened for the start of the second as the Village took command and started to create the chances. However the home keeper appeared to be in fine form as he kept out shots from Booey, Maggot and Pete in quick succession and then denied the Village yet again this time from the penalty spot. Nick had gone on one of his runs up field and as entered the area he was tripped up and the ref pointed to the spot. Up stepped Maggot but the keeper dived the right way and saved his rather tame effort to keep the score at just 1-0. Then on one of their own breakaways Bronze had a great chance in a one on one situation to level things but Jay made a great save to keep them out. The Village knew they had to do something to kill their opponents off and minutes later it happened as a cross from the right was met perfectly by Booey as he headed home from close range for 2-0. Within minutes the Village had increased their lead when Maggot got the ball in the area and this time he made no mistake as his drilled home that elusive 20th goal of the season to make FC Village history. With Timmy already on for his long awaited comeback the Village now gave Jason another run out as he replaced the history making Maggot and he went on to enjoy his time on the pitch. The Village had some chances but failed to take advantage and then right at the death Bronze got a corner and for some reason their keeper came up to join the attack in the hope of getting a consolation goal. However when the ball was cleared by the Village defence the home keeper was stranded and when Jason got the ball just inside their half he held off the challenge of two defenders and with the goalie still trying to get back he shot from long range and the ball went in off the post for 4-0. He was well happy for this was his first goal for the club and the rest of the team were just as pleased for him. Minutes later it was all over and the Village had consolidated their second place in the table as they prepared for another long layoff without a fixture.
