Report: FCVillage 6 Bronze Social 1

The Village won this game in the first 15 minutes as they scored three goals in an excellent opening spell. The line up for the Village saw them lose the unwell Harper and the departing Mike but saw the return of Fowler and so Manager Steve made only one change from the previous week as he gave Kenny his first start which meant Crozzer dropped down to bench for a well earned rest.

Unsure what side their opponents would be putting out the Village tore out of the blocks straight from the kick off and in a scintillating opening 15 minutes had the win and two points in the bag. With Machin and Kenny dominating the wings it took the home side less than 3 minutes to open the scoring as Maggot was played in down the right and he neatly cut in, beat two defenders before firing past the keeper. Within minutes the Village had doubled their lead as this time Machin sped down the left, beat his defender to cut in and rifle past the keeper in to the far corner. The Village were on fire and could have easily added to their tally before Machin again broke down the left and this time crossed for Victor to volley in from close range. It was a joy to watch as again and again the Village tore in to the shell shocked Bronze defence. The home side came close and probably should have added some more before they actually did as Nick, Machin and then Maggot all came close with Maggot seeing the Bronze keeper pull off a fine save to keep out his volley. Then just before the interval the fourth goal arrived and even though there was a bit of luck about it finally going over the line, the initial build up to was good to watch. The ball was played forward and Victor flicked it on to set Maggot free and as the keeper came out he lobbed him only to see his effort strike the foot of the left hand post. Luckily for the Village a Bronze defender was running back towards goal and he could do nothing about the ball hitting his leg and rolling back over the line.

With the game virtually won the Village inevitably eased off during the second half and with the Bronze offering little in the way of any pressure on the home goal they were able to make a couple of substitutions. On came Fowler and Crozzer for the hard working Victor and Timmy and both the subs slotted in well. With Jay having to make his one and only save midway through the half as he tipped an awkward bouncing free kick round the post it wasn't long before the Village increased their lead. Fowler was put through down the middle and he showed his power and strength as he beat off the challenge of two defenders before he nicked the ball past the advancing keeper. Then as he was just about to shoot the keeper pulled his legs from under him and the ref pointed to the spot. Despite Maggot being on spot duty he acknowledged what Fowler had done and offered up his chance for a hat-trick so Fowler could convert his first goal for the Village. The game petered out now but then there was a last minute flurry which produced two more goals. Firstly the Bronze got a free kick out on the left and their left back floated in a cross which eluded everyone and went in to the net for a mere consolation much to the disappointment of the Village defence. Straight from the restart Dava burst through the static visitors defence and found himself one on one with the keeper but just as he was about to shoot a defender came in for a tackle. Dava managed to knock the ball sideways to the in coming Kenny and he like Fowler opened his account for the club with a well drilled shot in to the far corner. Seconds later it was all over and the Village were worthy winners with an excellent team display which bodes well for the rest of the season.
