Report: FCVillage 3 Tower 1
The Village got back to winning ways as they overcame a stubborn Tower side and in the end they could have won by a few more. With Timmy and Machin out injured and Crozzer returning from injury, manager Steve has no hesitation in handing Ritchie his first game of the season after he had turned up for training that week. With Harper in for Machin on the left wing these were the only two changes the side had to make although with Martin and Jason unavailable they only had the one sub in Crozzer. The Tower had their own problems in that they started with only 10 men but it was only minutes before number eleven turned up.
As the home side the Village took the game to their opponents but despite controlling the play and getting a number of corners the final ball, pass or cross wasn’t happening. Tower themselves although never really threatening the home goal were making it difficult for them and it looked as though they were going to get the chance to open the scoring when Nick brought a forward tumbling to the ground inside the box but the ref much to everyone’s astonishment waved play. This may well have been down to the fact that he’d had enough of Tower complaining about some of his decisions but this was certainly not one of his better games. The one good thing to follow this incident was that it woke the Village out of their slumber and it wasn’t long before they took the lead. Booey got the ball out on the left from Harper, nipped in between a couple of defenders and chipped the ball across for Ritchie to smartly head home from six yards out. The Village were alive now and they had several half chances to extend that lead before the interval which they failed to take.
They knew that a second goal was needed to put the game to bed and as they took the game to the visitors the match opened up and was more free flowing. Suddenly the chances arrived and the first two both fell to Victor as he was twice put clear but in both one on ones with the keeper he clipped his efforts wide. Both Maggot and Kenny had chances as well but their shots were off target as Tower found the Village back four hard to penetrate and Jamie was not really troubled despite making 2 excellent tackles. Finally that second and decisive goal arrived when Maggot got the ball in the area and fired home his ninth and final (he would announce later in the week that he was out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury) goal of the season. With the game won the Village gave a run out to Crozzer who replaced the luckless Victor and it was Crozzer who made the third goal as Booey latched on to his through pass to nick the ball just over the advancing keeper and roll in to an empty net. Job done with a hard working display from the side but they fell asleep in injury time as they let Tower get a consolation goal. So the side stay second although the two sides behind have several games in hand as it seems it’s just the Village who are playing league games at the moment.
