Report: FCVillage 4 Wellington 0

The Village cruised to an easy first victory of the season over a injury ravaged Wellington down at Levers. With Fowler, Martin and Jason all unavailable the Village were glad to see the return of Dava and Nick which meant they had their first choice back four and then at the last moment Kenny Murphy announced he was available and would make his debut.

For this first home game of the new season at Levers the Village kicked off against Wellington with an attacking 4-4-2 formation and were soon in to their stride. With the back four looking impressive it seemed that it was just a matter of time before they would score as Victor, Booey, Nick and Maggot all came close to opening the scoring. Then when Victor burst through and a defender just caught his heel as he took aim and the keeper saved the shot it looked as though it could be one of those days. However their pressure paid off when Victor broke free down the left and crossed for Maggot who saw his effort loop on to the bar and then his first header was saved by the keeper on the line but he was able to nod the rebound in to an empty net. The Village were playing some really good football now and they were rewarded with a second goal just before the interval when Booey was played in down the right and his cross come shot squeezed past the substitute keeper at the near post.

Looking comfortable with that two goal cushion the Village started the second half slowly but after the visitors had enjoyed some early pressure they gradually regained control. Eventually a third goal came when a neat interchange between Victor and Machin ended with Machin curling in a great shot which the keeper got a hand to but was unable to stop from entering the goal. More chances came their way as the side were obviously enjoying themselves and finally Victor was rewarded for all his hard work and running when he was put clear and he raced on to fire home in to the roof of the net. The Village were also able to give Kenny his debut midway through the second half and he looked very promising and then just before the end Harper replaced Lee for yet another comeback match. Overall a very good team display and some excellent individual performances especially from M.O.M Machin and Nick.
