Report:
Game 16.
The second game of the evening was against Ilchester Park who are the side they are battling for second place. Despite only having a couple of minutes break between games the Village dominated from start to finish and beat a spirited Park side. Another hat-trick from Darren was the highlight and we saw Danny get his first goal and Stewy was the other scorer as they notched a vital win.
Footnote:- With the Lighty joining Box of Toys and not playing any more the Village have been awarded their final games against both of them as 3-0 wins for games 17 and 18 respectively. This leaves the team with just three remaining matches to secure the runners-up spot.
Team Line-up: Harper; Jones, Hill(J), Palin, Smith, Sample, McIvor, Aspey
Game 19.
Once again the side just managed to get 6 players together as McIvor was on holiday and then Ryan and Danny dropped out at the last moment with Matty failing to show. Luckily Mike Cottier was around and Jay once again had to play in this last game against the future Champions for this season. With the Gunners having numerous subs its a surprise that The Village did so well in the first half. Despite being 2 down they played some good football and got in a fair number of shots. However the failure to score took its toll and once a third goal went in it was just a matter of could they keep the opposition at bay. They couldn't and subsequently lost by their biggest margin. With a 2 week break now until the final 2 matches the Village know that they must win at least one of those if not both to ensure the runners up spot.
Team Line-up: Harper; Hill(J), Cottier, Dunroe, Aspey, Sample
Game 20.
After a two week lay off the Village turned up for the final two games knowing that they needed one win at least for second place. At one point it seemed as though they might struggle to get a side but Danny got Beattie back and new Saturday goalie Alan Kane for his first game, Ritchie got Lee and Jamie got Maggot. Up first were I.E.B.S. who were on the same points as the Village and had beaten them in the two previous encounters. However once the ref gave the Village a penalty when the I.E.B.S. keeper came out of his area and Maggot converted with ease there was only one team in it. Maggot completed his hat-trick in the first half and Danny slotted home for a 4-0 lead. Maggot converted a second spot kick before I.E.B.S. scored their consolation and then Ritchie and Danny for his second completed the rout to ensure second spot. Game 21 wasn't played as JBL failed to turn up so the Village got another win and even I.E.B.S. had had enough as they went home instead of playing their final game against the Champions. After the match the Village were awarded their runners up medals. It's a pity they couldn't have fielded this team each week as it looked very strong. Next season maybe!
Team Line-up: Kane; Beattie, McIvor, Jones, Aspey, Eaton, Hill(J), McCourt
