Report: The Village decided to enter a youth team in the newly formed Football Mundial League at Weatherhead School in Wallasey on a Monday evening for a group of lads from Pensby School.

Game 1.
The opening week saw the newly formed Village Youth side turn up a bit apprehensive about hoow they would do. However 28 minutes later and Ryan, Gill, Andy, Matty, Jake and Jord were well pleased with their performance. They played really well as a team, attacked in numbers, defended in depth and passed the ball around really well. Once Jord had scored the first goal and Jake notched a quick second there was no way they were going to lose the game. Matty rounded things off with two cracking efforts from the right wing and was denied a hat-trick by the post. Gill and Andy looked comfortable at the back and Ryan was never really tested in the nets. So a good start but a lot of hard work over the coming weeks.
Team Line-up: Lee; Gill, Mobbs, Hill, McNamara, Baksh

Game 2.
Week 2 and the boys came up against a new side playing their first game and on seeing them should do well over the coming months. However the boys gave their more experienced opponents a good game despite conceeding an early penalty. They stuck at their task and when Matty fired home another great effort for the equaliser. However another reply from Argyll restored their lead and a long range effort soon after sealed the win. Back to reality for the boys but they still looked good at times and will be ok.
Team Line-up: Lee; Gill, Mobbs, Hill, McNamara, Baksh

Game 3.
After a week off due to the Bank Holiday the lads came up against another of what will porbably be the favourites to do well. The team were forced in to one change as Gill was ill and he was replaced by Ash Bain for his first game so once again they had no sub. This proved to be somewhat decisive for whereas the Gunners were able to swap around their players to keep them fresh the Village gradually tired out. However they gave their older opponents a good run for their money and despite being three down at the miday point scored through a Matty thundebolt to make it 1-3 and though they let another in soon after scored again with Jord netting from close range. Ash hit the bar before the Gunners got two more for a 6-2 win. Still a creditable peformance with them learing more and more each game.
Team Line-up: Lee; Mobbs, Bain, Hill, McNamara, Baksh

Game 4.
With a full squad for the first time the boys were looking really good up until half time when organiser Steve had to leave and then they collapsed. The final scoreline was certainly flattering for the table toppers as the Village hit post the through Matty and saw their keeper make 3 great saves from Jake, Andy and Ash whilst down at the other end Ryan was never really troubled despite letting in the one goal of the half. Unable to comment on the second period except to say Jake scored his second goal of the campaign and the side have at least ended a three match run of playing the top sides.
Team Line-up: Lee; Gill, Bain, Hill, McNamara, Baksh, Mobbs

Game 5.
Well this was a big disappointment. The side completely dominated the match but lost to a team who lacked any adventure but scored from 2 of the 3 shots they had. With Gill and Jord unavailable they had to call up Darren Eaton from the Thursday squad to help them out and Steve Hill got kitted up just in case. Had Darren scored with his first attempt then things most likely would have turned out different. However his effort went over the bar and when The Vets scored from their first attack midway through the half they just sat back and let the Village attack them. Jake had to go off at the start of the second half but the side eventually scored an equaliser through Darren but Steve then misplaced his pass and the Vets scored again. As much as they tried to get a second goal they couldn't and its now 4 defeats in a row for them.
Team Line-up: Lee; Mobbs, Bain, Hill(M), McNamara, Eaton, Hill(S)

Game 6.
After a 2 week lay off due to holidays the team got back playing but it was the same as usual. They dominated the game, couldn't score and lost to a single and somewhat disputed goal. With no Ryan, Jake went in goal and there were no subs. This defeat leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table but they do have 2 games in hand which are against the 2 sides directly above them. However until they start scoring they will most likely struggle. One week all of their shots will go in!
Team Line-up: McNamara; Gill, Bain, Baksh, Mobbs, Hill(M)

Game 7.
The lads went in to this minus Ryan and Jord so Steve had to play as they came up against the top team Argyll. They did really well and all 6 players can be proud of themselves and the final scoreline of 2-4 was a tad unfair as it was a well matched game. With Steve marshalling from the back they harrassed the Argyll and despite letting in the first goal they fought back to lead 2-1 at the interval through 2 good goals from Jake and then Andy. They had also seen the keeper keep out another effort with a great save. Argyll picked it up in the second half, equalised and took the lead but the lads kept going and really forced the issue but couldn't score. With Jake, then Matty and finally Steve taking turns in goal they finally lost any chance of a point when they let a fourth in right at the end. So despite a defeat it was a very positive performance and one they can build on.

Team Line-up: Gill; Hill(S), Mobbs, Bain, Hill(M), McNamara
