Report: The Crown1 FC Village 3
Its good to play! After 47 days without a game the Village got back to playing but on a very poor surface this match may well have been called off on another day. However two goals from Maggot and one from Rutter saw the team overcome a good Crown side. With a near full strength squad to choose from the side welcomed back Peter to the fold and there was also a place on the bench for new signing Danny Beattie. As stated had the team and in fact the league been playing any games the previous couple of the weeks the ref may well have called this game off as the pitch resembled a bog and the Village knew that it would affect passing game.
With the ref giving the go ahead the match kicked off with Rutter, Nick and Peter being the only changes in their 4-5-1 line up from their previous game many moons ago. Both teams tried to get to grips with the sticky surface and it became somewhat of a lottery in that many of the passes just never reached the player they were meant to. This meant that it became a case of the long ball coming in to play just to try and get the ball in the danger area. After the Crown had the first opening in the very first minute when Jay made a good save the Village slowly took command. After forcing several corners they got their first clear chance when the ball was flicked on in to the path of Booey who found himself one on one with the keeper. He picked his spot and let fly only to see the goalie pull off a great save to deflect the ball over the bar. However a few minutes later the Village opened the scoring when the ball was played back to the Crown keeper and he miss hit his kick straight to Maggot some 30 yards from goal. Maggot duly knocked the ball forward and then let fly to see it scream in via the upright for 1-0. Both sides then had half chances before the interval but when it arrived the visitors were still one up.
The Village were just starting to think of changing things around some ten minutes in to the second half when Mikey made a great run down the left and crossed in to the bog of an area where Rutter controlled the ball, side stepped his defender and coolly slotted home for 2-0. That was his last piece of action as the pitch had taken its toll on him and he was shattered as he was replaced by Knoxy. The Village then had a couple of chances to kill the game off but Stewy and Maggot saw their efforts easily saved and this gave the Crown the incentive to try and get back in the match but were thwarted by a another good save from Jay. They however reduced the arrears although the player when he headed in a cross from under the bar appeared to be well offside but the linesman hadn’t flagged and the goal stood. The Village now responded in the best possible way before the Crown had any chance of equalising by scoring a third goal. Booey broke from midfield and threaded a pass through which managed to get through all the mud to Maggot and he ran on and drilled home for his second of the game. Confident they had now killed off the challenge from the home side the Village gave Beattie his debut and Spud a rare run out as they saw the game out. So whilst it was good to get back playing it was even better to get another win under their belts.
