Report: FC Village 10 Crossway Res 2

The Village swept aside Crossway Res winning both halves 5-1 and had the visiting keeper not put on a great show it could easily have been more. For this opening League match at Levers the Village were struggling to get a defence together as Paul, Peter V and Leigh Houghton all picked up injuries playing for their Sunday sides, The worst of these was Leigh who unfortunately is going to be out for a while and the club wish him a speedy recovery. The other two managed to brush off their injuries as Paul joined Adam, Nick and Paddy (making his debut) in the back four with Peter being named as a substitute to protect his foot. Otherwise the rest of the side was the same with Neish starting up top with Porky after his impressive display the week before which meant that the two returning strikers Matty and Maggot joined Peter on the bench.

Once Porky had nearly opened the scoring in the very first minute when he saw the keeper save his goal bound effort you just knew that once the Village got one, more would follow and that’s exactly what happened. Within a few minutes Porky had pounced on a through ball and fired home for the first of what would be a personal haul of four for the game. Within minutes Adam had headed home a corner to double the tally and the game was virtually sealed right there and then. The rest of the half belonged to Porky as he put the game beyond any doubt despite Crossway being presented with a consolation effort when the Village made a mistake in their own half. Porky got his second when he prodded in from close range and then grabbed his hat-trick when he pounced on a stray pass and ran through to round the keeper and slot in to an empty net. Number four came when Nick made one of his surging runs out of defence all the way in to the Crossway area and as he was about to pull the trigger the ball ran in to the path of Porky who smashed home. They could have had a few more and one move in particular would easily have made it in to the reckoning for goal of the month but Josh saw his great shot superbly saved the keeper after a great cross by Neish.

Peter V replaced Sean during the interval which allowed Paul to revert to centre back and Adam to move in to midfield with Mikey coming out on the wing. It took a while to get things going but as soon as Matty replaced the excellent Neish up front it was back to the usual Village relentless attacking. Finally Adam broke free in to the area where he unselfishly squared the ball for Matty to slip home for 6-1. Whereas the first half belonged to Porky the second would be Matty’s as he would go on to claim his hat-trick. Josh then increased the lead when he got his customary left wing goal as he fired home in to the far corner of the net before Mikey made it 8-1. The Village got a free kick just outside the visitors box and with their defence complaining to the ref about it Adam took a quick one and put in Mikey who hammered home his shot to round off a MOM display. Once again another slip in the Village defence allowed Crossway to claim a second consolation goal but the Village came good at the end to reach double figures. With Maggot on for Porky he took an in-swinging corner that Matty nodded in at the near post for his second and then Matty was on hand to hammer in from close range after the keeper had made another fine save to complete both his hat-trick and the scoring. So a comfortable win for the Village as they keep pace at the top with the other early pacesetters.
