Report: Pre-season Friendlies

The Village lost their opening friendly when they took on Sunday side Rileys down at Linksview. The Village turned up with 19 players and even though Jay & Matty Hill didn't play they still gave 17 a run out and this disrupted their flow in the second half. The starting 11 which played the first 45 included 3 new faces in Billy Devey, Beren Moylan and Lee Houghton and one old face in Leigh Hutton. Otherwise it was the usual suspects as they tried to clear away the cobwebs. They conceeded an early goal from a corner but came back well, equalised through JimBob and should have gone in at the interval ahead but the usually reliable Matty curled one shot just wide and then spurned his first ever penalty after JimBob was brought down. So level at the interval the Village now gave 3 young lads their debut for the club as Adam Coulls, Tom Briggs and Mike Neish all came on. The game was end to end although the Village probably had the majority of the ball but wasted it in the final third. Then from a long punt upfield Leigh was adjudged to have fouled a foward and Rileys mad it 2-1 from the spot kick. Spud now came on and had a goal disallowed before they gave late cameo run outs to Maggot & Sadler which meant they had mostly forwards on the pitch and they paid the price by conceeding a third. Mike came closest to reducing the arrears when his goal bound shot was tipped on to the bar by the keeper. So a disappointing first run out and the whole team know they have to improve.

Team Line-up:
