Report: Moreton 0 FC Village 0

The first goalless game in the history of the Village was marred by some unsavoury happenings down at Lingham. Yet again the Village had to make several team changes from the previous week but they took 19 players to the game as they attempted to get a league win under their belt. With Jim Bob, Ritchie and Fletcher at the Everton game the side saw the return of Paul, Danny, BT, Jamie, Knoxy, Dava and Cottier to the squad.

On a poor playing surface it’s really hard to mention that much that happened in the first half and in fact whole game without mentioning the man in the middle and as we can’t do that we won’t. So the only two notable events regarding the Village were a good run down the right by Jamie but his cross evaded not only the goalie but the out stretched foot of Scott just six yards out and then the substitution of Chris when he twisted his ankle to be replaced by Cottier who would go on and put in an M.O.M. display.

Still goalless at the interval the Village but were never able to get to play their passing game on the poor surface and a couple of times they did break through they were pulled up for offside. Cottier came close to breaking the deadlock with a long range effort that went just wide and Matty tested the keeper but the chances were few in number. Then when Moreton were reduced to 10 men the Village introduced Knoxy and Dava hoping they could turn things round but it was looking more and more as neither side would score even if they played all night. Defensively the Village had to cope with a few home efforts but they kept them at bay whilst at the other end the visitors just couldn’t produce that killer pass or telling shot. Then with just a couple of minutes left the Village were reduced to 10 men themselves which resulted in a mass brawl that included nearly everyone there both on the pitch and the line. The remaining last seconds were then played out and much to everybody’s relief it was all over and as said it meant that the Village had contested their first ever 0-0 draw.
